Are the costs of Naturopathic Medicine Covered?

Many insurance companies cover Naturopathic medical visits. Check with yours for the details. If your income is less than 24,000 per year MSP may cover a portion of your visit.

Is Naturopathic Medicine regulated in the province of British Columbia?

It is. Our governing body is the CNPBC (The College of Naturopathic Physicians of BC). The College sets out standards and guidelines to ensure that ND’s are achieving safe, competent and ethical practices.

What are the educational requirements in becoming a Naturopathic Doctor?

To obtain a doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine candidates must complete a rigorous 4 year postgraduate training program after completing a minimum of 3 years undergraduate prerequisites. Graduates must then pass a national standardized board exam to qualify for a license in each province.To continue to hold their license physicians must complete continuing education hours on a regular and ongoing basis.

Can Naturopathic Doctors prescribe prescription medicines?

Yes they can. ND’s were granted the authority to prescribe in 2009. The Naturopathic Doctors at Hawthorne have all gone through the training and exams to hold a prescriptive license.

Do Naturopathic Doctors work with Medical Doctors?

Yes. It is our goal that you receive the best possible quality of care. This often entails collaborating with medical doctors, chiropractors, physiotherapists and other members of your health team.
